GA Welcomes New Leadership


Every 2 - 3 years the GA revisits the needs of the consortium based on the foreseeable short- to medium-term tasks to be tackled by the consortium and appoints new leadership accordingly. This year a revisit of the consortium's governance led to significant changes including but not limited to a unianimous approval of the Chairman, the 1st Vice Chairman, the 2rd Vice Chairman, and a new Secretary General.

 

Chairman: Mr Tim Hird / Prince -Erachem

Biography

British born, Tim studied Zoology and Chemistry at the University of London. With over 30 years’ experience working in the International Chemicals Sector and 8 years’ experience working in Regulatory Compliance Management, Tim reinforced his regulatory compliance know-how in 2008, by obtaining a Post Graduate Certificate in REACH Management from the University of Hull, UK.

Presently, Tim is the Material Safety Manager for Prince Mineral Limited,  a member of the Copper Compounds Consortium Management Committee and the Chairman of the Mn Consortium.

 

1st Vice Chairman: Dr Bernd Friede / Elkem

Biography

German-born, Dr. Friede holds a PhD in inorganic solid state chemistry and has been working for the Norwegian company Elkem since 2000 as Corporate Product Stewardship Manager.

A member of the Mn-Consortium since 2008, Bernd has been involved with REACH and other regulatory affairs for over 10 years.

He represents Elkem in a number of European industry associations and technical working groups.

 

2nd Vice Chaiman: Mr Arnaud Vigier / Eramet

Biography

Arnaud Vigier is Vice President for Manganese Alloys Sales in Eramet, the French multinational mining and Metallurgy Company which was a founding member of the Mn-Consortium in 2007. Arnaud joined Eramet in November 2011 to work as Market Intelligence Manager before moving to China to assume the responsibilities of Director of Manganese Ore Sales. Prior to his time at Eramet he worked for 6 years as a system engineer and product manager in Japan and the US for the Horiba Group, a manufacturer of hi-tech optical instruments for measurement and analysis.

Arnaud graduated from the Engineering School of Physics in Grenoble and took an MBA from the HEC business school in Paris after several years of work.

 

Secretary General: Dr Doreen McGough

Biography

Dr McGough has been Secretary General of the Mn-Consortium since 1 July 2017.

Prior to this she was HSE Director for the International Manganese Institute (IMnI) for over 8 years. As the Institute’s chief scientist Dr McGough has published over 10 peer-reviewed articles concerning manganese. Along with her work at the IMnI she has also been working for MARA on lease as its main technical advisor.

Before joining the IMnl Dr McGough worked as a regulatory affairs specialist at Safepharm Laboratories Ltd UK, a contracted research organization.

An Anglo-Cameroonian, Dr McGough holds a BSc in biology, an MSc in environmental pollution control, and a doctorate in environmental toxicology from the University of Nottingham (UK), where she began her career as a lecturer.
